New Miami Hurricanes OC Dan Enos proved himself ready before he became Head Coach
New Miami Offensive Coordinator Dan Enos proved himself as a quarterback guru and offensive mastermind early in his career before getting the chance to be a Head Coach. He will bring a modern approach to the Miami Hurricanes program.
Dan Enos has a vast array of experience as a collegiate football coach. He began his career as a Graduate Assistant at Michigan State in 1991 immediately after his playing career ended with the Spartans. Enos was Manny Diaz’s hand-picked choice to be the Offensive Coordinator for the Miami Hurricanes.
Enos has been an Offensive Coordinator or Quarterbacks Coach in college in all but three of the last 25 seasons. He was the running backs coach at Michigan State from 2007-09. Following his second stint in East Lansing Enos accepted the Head Coaching position at Central Michigan.
He brings a vast display of knowledge and experience as the new Miami Hurricanes Offensive Coordinator and QB Coach. Enos has built his reputation as a quarterback guru.
His first FBS job working with QBs was as the QB Coach at Western Michigan in 2000. The Broncos improved from 232.1 yards passing in his first season as the QB coach to 257.8 in his second year.
After one year of coaching at FCS North Dakota State, Enos returned to FBS with Cincinnati from 2004-05 under current Michigan State Head Coach Mark Dantonio as the QB Coach.
In his first year with the Bearcats, Enos helped four-year starter Gino Giudugli improve tremendously. Before Enos arrived in 2003 Guidugli completed 53.4 percent of his passes for 225.33 yards per game, 14 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and 113.0 QB rating.
Guidugli took a big jump in his final season with Cincinnati under Enos. The Bearcats signal caller completed 63.4 percent of his passes for 239.36 YPG, 26 touchdowns, eight INTs and a 146.5 passer rating. With Enos’ tutelage, Guidugli still holds most of the Bearcats passing records.
That season was seminal in Enos’ career. In Enos’ four seasons during his second stint at Michigan State, he got a chance to work with future NFL QBs Brian Hoyer and Drew Stanton as the QB Coach in 2006.
He spent the next three seasons working with the running backs. Coached by Enos, Javon Ringer became only the second running back in Michigan State history to have two seasons rank in the top ten in school history in rushing.
Ringer ran for 1,447 yards and six touchdowns and caught 35 passes for another 295 yards in 2006. Jahuu Caulcrick added 872 and 21 rushing touchdowns for the Spartans that same season.
A year later without Caulcrick vulturing touchdowns Ringer ran 1,637 yards 22 TD and added 28 receptions for 190 yards. Ringer left Michigan State as the second all-time leading rusher behind Lorenzo White. The thriving Michigan State ground game led by Enos as the running backs coach led to his hiring at Central Michigan.
We will take a look at Enos’ tenure in Mt. Pleasant, his success as the Offensive Coordinator at Arkansas and his one brilliant season working with the Alabama quarterbacks in the second part of the series on the Miami Hurricanes new Offensive Coordinator.
