The Miami Hurricanes will resume Spring Practice on Tuesday and will go on a Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday schedule through the April 20 Spring Game at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.

The spring game will be a dry run for the Miami Hurricanes season opener August 24 at Camping World Stadium against Florida. Miami last played at Camping World Stadium when they defeated West Virginia in the 2016 Camping World Bowl. A handful of players from that team remain.

The most notable Miami players that played in the 2016 Camping World Bowl were the all rising Senior Linebacker corps of Shaq Quarterman, Michael Pinckney and Zach McCloud. The Hurricanes will have one open scrimmage in South Florida at Traz Powell Stadium in Miami on April 13 at noon.

The same release that announced Miami’s complete spring schedule, the Hurricanes Athletic Department announced that they will hold Pro Day on March 25. Six Miami Hurricanes competed in the NFL combine in Indianapolis earlier this month. The Pro Day gives the players who were not there a chance to show their talents.

Miami began spring practice this week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. The first day of Spring Practice brought news the Hurricanes football program had been waiting two months for. Transfer quarterback Tate Martell from Ohio State was declared eligible for the 2019 season. Martell was a five-star QB in the Class of 2017.

Martell was a high teammate of rising Sophomore tight end Brevin Jordan and safety Bubba Bolden who will also be a Sophomore in 2019 after transferring from USC. Jordan was a top three receiver for the Hurricanes in 2018. Bolden is expected to challenge to be a starter in 2019.

Martell is battling with Rising Redshirt Sophomore N’Kosi Perry and Rising Redshirt Freshman Jarren Williams to be the starting QB in 2019. Martell was a bit shaky and reportedly nervous during the first week of practices this Spring. Interpreting what head coach Manny Diaz has said, Martell is the most mature of the three.

Spring practice could take on added importance this season. The August 24 season opener is a week earlier than the majority of college football. Arizona at Hawaii is the only other FBS game that will be played that day. It’s the earliest start in the history of the Miami Hurricanes football program.

Several positions are worth watching this spring. Other than QB and safety, other positions to watch this spring are the development of wide receiver depth, the improvement of the offensive line and who emerges at defensive tackle are all keys as the Hurricanes prepare for the 2019 season.
