Johnson has repeatedly proven that he’s a playmaker. He led Miami in tackles in 2017 and ’18. Johnson was the team MVP in ’17 and defensive MVP last season. Johnson spoke to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson about what his agent, the legendary Drew Rosenhaus has been telling NFL teams about him.

"“Watch the film. Don’t be overwhelmed by [the height and weight] numbers. My play speaks for itself.”"

Johnson and his partner at safety Sheldrick Redwine have played together since pee-wee football. Jackson said an NFL scout spoke very highly of Redwine. Redwine performed exceptionally well at the combine. The Athletic’s Manny Navarro said on Twitter that Redwine and running back Travis Homer did not run in the 40.

Redwine and Homer were happy with their combine times. Redwine ran a 4.44 40-yard dash in Indianapolis. Homer was fifth among running backs at the combine with a 4.48 40. Redwine discussed with Jackson the likelihood of not playing with Johnson in the NFL.

"“I can’t get away from him…Our whole neighborhood is proud of us. It will be different [probably not playing together as NFL rookies]. I can’t go my whole career saying I can only play with this man.”"

Barry Jackson said that NFL scouts have discussed the possibility that former Miami cornerback Michael Jackson could move to safety at the next level. He is reportedly comfortable playing both. Jackson has ideal size for an NFL defensive back at 6’1 200 pounds.

Defensive tackle Gerald Willis who is almost certain to be the first Hurricanes player selected in next month’s draft had to make up for lost time. Willis was not able to participate in the drills at the combine due to an injury.
