After hyperextending his knee during Tuesday’s practice Miami Hurricanes rising sophomore tight end Brevin Jordan will be out day to day. Running back Asa Martin who will redshirt in 2019 is out for the remainder of the spring with a leg injury.

Brevin Jordan and Asa Martin are two of a handful of Miami Hurricanes players dealing with injuries this spring. The Miami football team had a rash of injuries to their tight ends last season. Will Mallory, Michael Irvin II and Brian Polendey are all coming off of knee injuries last fall. Irvin and Polendey missed all or most of 2018.

Jordan had an outstanding freshman season. He finished in the top three on Miami with 32 receptions, 287 yards and four receiving touchdowns. With a young and relatively inexperienced receiving corps expect Jordan to make an impact again in 2019. Mallory is also expected to have a key role in the Hurricanes passing game.

Jordan and Mallory are both picking up the intricacies of new offensive coordinator Dan Enos’ system. They have gotten down the motion that Enos has installed into the Hurricanes offense. Mark Richt did not use much if any motion in his pro-style offense.

Martin will have plenty of time to heal. Miami did not pursue a waiver for him to play this season as they did with quarterback Tate Martell. He will hopefully be healthy enough to take part in summer training camp. Martin played five games for Auburn last season. The former Alabama Mr. Football had 57 yards on 13 carries.

Auburn playing Martin in the fifth game cost him a redshirt season. The Tigers later said it was an oversight. Miami has a good stable of running backs without Martin. DeeJay Dallas is the likely replacement for Travis Homer as the Hurricanes starting running back. Cam’Ron Harris (formerly Davis) and Lorenzo Lingard will back Dallas up.

Lingard is also coming off of a knee injury that cost him the majority of his freshman year. Jordan’s mother sent out a tweet late on Thursday night relieved that her son’s injury was not more serious.

Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald reported Thursday afternoon that Irvin is back fully participating in practice. There was no update on Poledney’s injury status this spring. Poledney is unlikely to be more than the fourth string tight end.

Several other Miami Hurricanes are also dealing with injuries. Safety Robert Knowles is still out after being injured in each of the first two spring practices. Knowles played in 12 of Miami’s 13 games last season with 16 tackles. He is likely to continue to be a backup this season.

Redshirt freshman John Campbell who has been practicing with the first-team offense at right tackle this spring was seen riding an exercise bike Thursday. Senior George Brown who gave up a bushel of sacks during the spring scrimmages in 2018 took his place.
