Miami Hurricanes DL dominant, offense can ”be dangerous” after first scrimmage
The Miami Hurricanes defensive line continued to assert the dominance they have had under Manny Diaz and the offense has the potential to be dangerous according to The New Miami Head Coach.
Rising redshirt freshman Greg Rousseau, incoming freshman Jahfari Harvey and rising sophomore Nesta Silvera dominated the Miami Hurricanes first spring scrimmage of 2019 held at Columbus High School that was closed to the media and public. Diaz liked what he saw from the offense and said: “We have a chance to be dangerous.”
Harvey, Rousseau and Silvera were the story of the scrimmage. Rousseau picked up where he left off before a season-ending ankle injury last fall with four sacks. Silvera had six tackles and four tackles for loss and Harvey had five tackles and two sacks.
Rousseau and Harvey are going to be part of an exceptional rotation at defensive end. Harvey and Rousseau are expected to back up rising junior Jonathan Garvin and graduate transfer Trevon Hill from Virginia Tech. Rising senior Scott Patchan will also be a part of the rotation as an edge rusher.
No clarification was achieved at quarterback with the numbers released by the Miami athletic department. Semi-incumbent rising redshirt sophomore N’Kosi Perry was 5-7, for 126 yds, with two touchdowns TDs, his classmate, Tate Martell went 6-11 with a TD and rising redshirt freshman Jarren Williams had 53 yards passing.
Diaz spoke after the scrimmage in a video released on the Miami Hurricanes YouTube channel Canes All-Access. The Hurricanes head coach said that he liked the way the offense ripped some runs on the inside, the way they responded in the second half and that he liked that they scored a couple of TDs late.
