Miami Hurricanes fans can relate to Auburn loss in Final Four

Doughty was called for a foul. Steratore said that it was the correct call because Doughty did not give Guy space to land correctly.

Guy received three free throws because the foul occurred on a three-point attempt. The referees put 0.6 seconds back on the clock after the shot attempt. Guy made all three free throws to give Virginia a 63-62 lead. Auburn missed on a harmless tip to the rim from about 15 feet away and the Cavaliers survived.

The victory for Virginia came after they needed a shot at the buzzer to tie Purdue in the South Regional final to send the game into overtime before winning in the extra session. Virginia head coach Tony Bennett said after the win “Survive and advance, I guess that’s taking on a new meaning,”

The pain for Miami Hurricanes fans will never cease from the loss to Ohio State and it won’t for Auburn fans either. Time and perspective can change the way we look at things. Auburn coach Bruce Pearl told CBS after the game that one play doesn’t determine the outcome.

Daughters comment in her article about the 2003 Fiesta Bowl perfectly summed up how both Miami and Auburn fans feel. “After the replays rolled, it was fairly clear that the call was questionable at best.”
