The starting wide receivers for Miami in 2019 are locked in. It would be a surprise if Buffalo transfer K.J. Osborn and rising juniors Jeff Thomas and Mike Harley are not the starters at wide receiver in August. Coaches have been very impressed by the play and maturity of incoming freshman Jeremiah Payton.
The Hurricanes need the rising sophomore group of wide receivers that were lauded in the 2018 recruiting class to be contributors this fall. The Miami passing game was dreadful last year. Enos’ new system should help but its ultimately on the players to perform on the field.
Tight end has been an issue with injuries this spring but the Hurricanes are in a better place at the position than they were last fall. Miami is being cautious with star rising sophomore tight end Brevin Jordan. Jordan got hurt at the beginning of spring practice and hasn’t participated since.
Rising sophomore Will Mallory and rising junior Michael Irvin II have received more of the first-team snaps with Jordan out. Irvin has received a lot of praise from his teammates during spring practice. The son of the original Miami playmaker missed all of 2018 with a torn MCL.
The offensive line is mostly a mess. Enos and offensive line coach Butch Barry has had to shuffle players around this spring because of injuries. Center Corey Gaynor who is expected to be the starter missed most of practice this week and his status for Saturday is unknown.
