Williams led the Hurricanes offense to two touchdowns and a field goal on his three drives. It wasn’t specified which drives were against the first-team defense and which were against the second.

Martell’s luster is starting to wane after being a highly publicized transfer in January. He should still be considered the favorite to start but Williams and Perry have done far more this spring to earn the first-team spot on the depth chart. Martell continues to struggle with his accuracy.

Martell’s first pass quivered and the Hurricanes offense went three and out for the first time of Saturday afternoon on the former Ohio State quarterback’s first drive on the day. His first drive was culminated by a D.J. Ivey interception. Miami has to cut down on the turnovers at QB.

The Hurricanes finished 102nd in FBS in 2018 with 14 interceptions thrown by their QBs. Perry threw six interceptions with the other eight coming from Rosier. Martell threw one touchdown without an interception in 28 attempts at Ohio State in 2018. He completed 22 passes for 269 yards.

Martell seems to be feeling the pressure of being the Hurricanes savior at QB. He previously stated during the offseason that he is not the savior. The 5’11 signal caller threw into coverage on the INT. Martell struggled against both the first and second team Miami defenses.

Martell began the second half with the second team Miami offense against the third team defense. He had a succession of errors on the first drive. Martell initiated the drive throwing behind a receiver, tripped dropping back on a play action pass, then misfired ten yards short on a third down attempt.
