Miami Hurricanes QB Tate Martell losing luster, outplayed by N’Kosi Perry, Jarren Williams
The Miami offense had a drastic improvement on third down in 2018 over their magical 2017 season. They need to continue to grow in that metric this fall. The Hurricanes improved from 126th to 54th on third down conversions from 2017 to 2018.
Miami struggled to throw the football on third downs from 1-9 yards in 2018. They were oddly far better on third down passing with ten yards or more to go in 2018. The passing offense needs to be far more consistent for the Hurricanes in 2019. The efficiency at QB will definitely figure into who the starter is for Miami in 2019.

Martell’s height works against him competing against Perry and Williams. Perry is 6’4 and Williams 6’2. Several of Martell’s throws on Saturday might have been tipped at the line of scrimmage.
As the Miami Hurricanes offense continues to be installed for the 2019 season each of the three Miami QBs has a chance to assert themselves as the best candidate to be under center in August. Martell has been in the leader in understanding the offense. His play is bringing him down and leveleling the competition.

Williams has been far ahead of Perry and Martell throwing the football. He is more of a pro-style QB than Martell or Perry but not as athletic. It could come down to what Enos wants from the position. There remains the possibility to start one of the three and have special packages for one or both of the other two.
