Canes Warning’s Pittsburgh Steelers partner site SteelCurtain.Com

reported

on Tuesday that

“Steelers GM Kevin Colbert remains optimistic about Artie Burns.”

The Steel Curtain called Burns a bust but reported that Colbert and Burns met after the season to discuss his role going forward.

Colbert joined the Cook and Joe Show on 93.7 FM in Pittsburgh to discuss where Burns is at and his mindset this offseason.

"“Artie lost his confidence and wasn’t where we needed him to be and was replaced in the starting lineup…He’s had a good offseason . . . we had good meetings with him. He wants to be back where he was.”"

Pittsburgh Steelers

Burns was a great leader at Miami. He was a central figure in one of the most emotional weeks in Miami Hurricanes history in 2015. Al Golden got fired after losing 58-0 at home to Clemson, Burns mother died during the week and in Larry’s Scott’s first game as interim coach, the Hurricanes won the eight-lateral game at Duke.

Burns was a Senior on that team and his teammates rallied around him as the Miami Hurricanes pulled off the most improbable victory in school history. Burns will attempt a personal come back in 2019. Pittsburgh missed the playoffs for the first time since 2013 last season.

It was only the fourth time they didn’t make it in head coach Mike Tomlin’s 12 years. In a sense its a chance for the Steelers to start over. The pressure will be on the Cleveland Browns to win the division in 2019. That takes some of the pressure off of Pittsburgh. Burns is only 24. He has plenty of time to turn his career around.

"“Artie Burns, CB The Steelers offseason commitment to upgrade their secondary could mean the end of Burns in Pittsburgh. This time last year, the Steelers were hoping Burns would emerge as their No. 1 cornerback in 2018. He instead played so poorly that Pittsburgh benched him for virtually all of the second half of its disappointing campaign. The Steelers followed up by making a rare foray into unrestricted free agency to sign Steven Nelson before using a third-round pick on Michigan State corner Justin Layne. Pittsburgh will likely decline Burns’ fifth-year option, though teams that remember how Kyle Fuller managed to turn his career around after the Bears declined his fifth-year option could be interested in taking a shot on a corner who turns 24 this week.”"
