Miami baseball all-time lineup is home run
Like Weeks, Alex Cora followed his older brother to the Major Leagues. Joey Cora who is ten years Alex’s senior played 11 seasons in MLB with four different teams. Cora was a great defensive shortstop at Miami on three College World Series teams. The Puerto Rican native was named to the all CWS team in 1995 and ’96.
Cora starred in Miami’s heartbreaking loss in the 1996 College World Series Championship game. The Hurricanes lost to LSU on a Warren Morris walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Miami took a one-run lead into the bottom of the ninth. Cora was 3-5 with a triple and three RBIs in the game.
Following his career in Coral Gables, Cora was a third-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Cora made his major league debut on June 7, 1998, against the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners second baseman in that game was his older brother Joey. Cora had a 14-year major league career with six teams.
Following his major league career, Cora has been a coach, broadcaster and manager. He is the first Miami baseball alum to become an MLB manager. Cora led the Boston Red Sox to a World Series title in his first season in 2018.
