A season after Braun’s sensational freshman season, Jay burst into the Miami baseball spotlight with his own. Jay had a .368 batting average, 14 doubles, 56 runs batted in and six home runs during the 2004 season. Jay helped the Hurricanes reach the College World Series and was named to the All-CWS team as a freshman.

Jay improved his numbers as a sophomore in 2005. Jay led Miami with a .408 batting average and .490 on-base percentage to earn first-team All-ACC and third team All-American. In his final season, Jay led Miami again with a  .361 batting average, 31 stolen bases, 77 runs scored and a .490 on-base percentage.

Jay was named to the All-ACC first team for the second consecutive year and a second-team All-American. His .378 batting average is fourth in Miami history and he is fifth with 254 career hits.

]ay was a second-round pick by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2006. He was a member of their 2011 World Series Championship team. Jay is currently in his tenth major league season and plays for the Chicago White Sox.

Mike Fiore is the only winner of the Dick Howser Trophy for the Nation’s best college baseball player from the University of Miami. Fiore was a four-year starter and holds the Miami career records for hits (341), runs (258), doubles (63), RBIs(235) and total bases (506).

Fiore was named to the All-College World Series team as a Freshmen on the 1985 Hurricanes championship team. Following his career, Fiore played on the Gold Medal winning USA baseball team at the Seoul Olympics under Tommy Lasorda.
