In their rankings of the ACC quarterbacks for the 2019 season, Miami Hurricanes quarterback N’Kosi Perry was ranked ninth of the 15 signal callers in the conference by Athlon Sports. He also came up a mediocre fourth in the ACC Coastal Division.

N’Kosi Perry’s first season playing college football for the Miami Hurricanes was a plethora of ups and downs. He was spectacular in a victory over Florida International, efficient against North Carolina and clutch against Florida State. Other 2018 Perry performances were disastrous that cost Miami in four losses.

Perry completed 97 passes in 191 attempts in 2018 for a 50.8 completion percentage for 1,091 yards, 13 touchdowns and six interceptions. Two of those interceptions came in just six attempts in a loss to Virginia when Perry was pulled early in the game in favor of then senior Malik Rosier.

Perry’s 5.71 yards per attempt in 2018 ranked 107th in the nation. Miami averaged 6.1 yards per attempt as a team. That was 116th nationally. Miami drastically needs to improve their passing game in 2019. If the offense improves this season the Hurricanes can challenge to win their second ACC Coastal title in three years.

New Miami offensive coordinator Dan Enos will call a very different game offensively and specifically in the passing game than former head coach and offensive play-caller Mark Richt did the previous three seasons.  Miami needs more than a new game plan from their QBs. Improvement at QB is essential in 2019.

Perry will be challenged in training camp this summer to be the Miami Hurricanes starting QB. Ohio State transfer, rising sophomore Tate Martell and rising redshirt freshman Jarren Williams will battle with Perry to be the starter. There was no clear favorite after spring practice. Athlon concurred with that assessment.

The iconic magazine expects the Miami Hurricanes play at QB to improve in 2019 under Enos. He is vastly more experienced as the QB coach than former position coach Jon Richt. Enos has improved QB play as a head coach at Central Michigan, offensive coordinator at Arkansas and QB coach at Alabama.

"“9. N’Kosi Perry, MiamiMiami finished spring practice with uncertainty at quarterback, and the battle is expected to extend into the fall. Perry, Ohio State transfer Tate Martell and redshirt freshman Jarren Williams are vying for the starting job.New coordinator Dan Enos is one of the top assistant coach hires for 2019, and while the Hurricanes may not have an All-ACC quarterback by the end of the year, improvement should be noticeable out of the offense.Perry led the team with 1,091 passing yards and 13 touchdowns and also chipped in 169 yards and a score on the ground last season. However, he completed only 50.8 percent of his throws, tossed six picks and averaged 5.7 yards per attempt. How far will Perry improve this offseason under Enos?”"

If Enos’ history working with QBs is any indication the Hurricanes should see significant improvement in the passing game. The progress needs to come from the work that Perry, Martell and Williams put in as much as the system Enos is installing. It has been three years since Miami had elite play at QB.

dark. Next. UCF wrong complaining about USF and Miami football three game series

Brad Kaaya was a generational QB for Miami. He owns the school passing yardage record and is first in a few other passing categories for the Hurricanes. When Enos gets his own QB at Miami, that signal caller could challenge those records.
