Half-Dozen critical questions facing 2019 Miami football team

In correspondence with College Football Rankings on Twitter, Canes Warning was asked about six questions facing the Miami football program for 2019. Our answers are below.

College Football Rankings 1. Obviously KJ Osborn, Jeff Thomas and Brevin Jordan are the top 3 targets (for the Miami football team)……Who are the 4-5-6th options?

Canes Warning: Wide receiver Mike Harley, tight end Will Mallory and running back DeeJay Dallas will be the secondary targets in the Miami passing game in 2019. Harley tied for third on Miami with 21 receptions for 240 yards in 2018 He is very well regarded as a blocker.

Harley’s improvement as a receiver should be as significant in 2019 as the jump he made last season. Harley had nine receptions for 91 yards as a freshman in 2017. He is still looking for his first touchdown.

Mallory and Jordan will line up together frequently. Mallory had an injury-plagued 2018 freshman season. The Miami coaching staff is extremely high on Mallory’s potential. He’s regarded as much of a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses comparable to Jordan.

Mallory comes from one of college football’s most renowned families. Mallory’s grandfather, the late Bill Mallory was a head coach in Division I for over 20 years. The Jacksonville native’s father Mike and uncles played at Michigan in the 1980s.

Dallas began his Miami career in 2017 as a wide receiver. When the running back depth was depleted by injuries Dallas was moved to the backfield. Expect Dallas to be lined up all over the field under new offensive coordinator Dan Enos.

CFR: 2. The defense was 18th in scoring LY….How close so you think they come to that this season?

CW: The defense will be fine. There is a lot of talk about who they lost. There needs to be more focus on who is returning. The same things were said last year and Miami still had one of the nation’s most dominating defenses. Where they finished in scoring is not indicative of how good they truly were.
