Miami has the most talent in the Coastal Division

Although Miami’s Surge ’19 recruiting class finished 28th in the 247Sports composite rankings, the Hurricanes classes behind 2019 were ranked much higher. Their 2018 class was eighth, the 2017 class 12th and 2016 class 22nd. All but this year’s freshman class was the highest ranked recruiting class in the coastal.

Miami should have a huge advantage in recruiting than the other Coastal division schools. Only Pittsburgh and Georgia Tech have fertile recruiting grounds in their own backyards in the ACC Coastal besides Miami. Finding the level of skill position players in Pittsburgh and Atlanta doesn’t compare to South Florida.

Diaz, Enos and the Miami recruiting staff have made it a priority to emphasize the “State of Miami” that Howard Schnellenberger coined 40 years ago. The Hurricanes will not be able to recruit as well in South Florida as Schnellenberger did but making emphasizing it is crucial to the success of the Miami football program

Athlon’s Nicholas Ian Allen and Kyle Kensing gave their thoughts on Miami’s outlook for 2019.

"“Miami is arguably the most talented team in the division, but the Hurricanes are led by a first-time, first-year head coach and must navigate through a three-headed quarterback competition…The Coastal will once again be up for grabs. Could Miami in Year 1 under Manny Diaz win it.”"

This will be Diaz’s first time as a head coach at any level. It’s certainly a valid question by outsiders to the Miami football program. Enos spent five seasons as the head coach at Central Michigan and new defensive line and assistant head coach Todd Stroud have been head coaches before. Their presence will help Diaz.

The 7-6 2018 season was not because of a lack of talent. The skill position players on offense were not being used correctly. Expect that to change in 2019. Watch for multiple formations with players lining up all over the place.

Running Back DeeJay Dallas, wide receiver Jeff Thomas and tight ends Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory will be the players to watch. From what Enos has said throughout the spring, He has a lot of ideas of how he will utilize the Hurricanes skill position players and especially those four.
