Miami opened the 2017 season with seven straight wins (it would reach ten overall) before back to back weeks with their two biggest games of the season at Hard Rock Stadium in November. Miami hosted ESPN Saturday Night Football on ABC primetime game of the week against Virginia Tech and Notre Dame to begin November.

The game against Virginia Tech was the defacto ACC Coastal Division Championship game. Diaz’s defense was dominant. Virginia Tech had 299 yards of total offense and four turnovers in a 27-10 loss to the Miami Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes defense was consistent throughout the game. Virginia Tech had 149 yards in the first half and 150 after halftime.

The Hurricanes aggressive defense frequently bent against the Hokies but didn’t break. Virginia Tech crossed the 50 into Miami territory six times that night.  They could only convert those drives into scores twice. Three of the Hokies four turnovers came in Miami territory. Two of them in the Hurricanes red zone.

The Hokies also gave the ball back to Miami on downs on their second possession of the second half at the Hurricanes 39 yardline. Two of Virginia Tech’s four turnovers came in the second half and in the red zone. The Hokies only touchdown drive of the game began at the Miami 17-yard line after Malik Rosier threw an interception.
