In quarterback N’Kosi Perry’s first start the Miami defense stole the spotlight. After a DeeJay Dallas four-yard run in the first quarter gave the Hurricanes a 7-3 lead, the Miami defense scored three of their next four touchdowns. North Carolina committed six turnovers in a dominant 47-10 Miami win.

North Carolina finished the night with 329 total yards, including 215 rushing, but the half dozen turnovers were too much to overcome. Three of the Tar Heels turnovers came in their own half of the field. Two others came inside the Miami 30 yardline. It was a dominant defensive performance by the Hurricanes.

Miami had 14 tackles for loss, five sacks, three fumble recoveries and three interceptions. Add in three defensive touchdowns and the big play Hurricanes defensive thrived at every level. Although Quarterman did not score a defensive touchdown he was the most productive Hurricanes player defensively.

Quarterman finished the ESPN nationally televised Thursday night game with five tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble and a pass breakup. Jackson had five tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, and an interception that was returned for a touchdown.
