Miami basketball alum James Jones ready for first NBA Draft as GM
Known as a perimeter player in the NBA with many key three-point shots during the Heat and Cavaliers runs to seven straight finals combined (eight in total with Cleveland going in 2018 after Jones retired), Jones has three of Miami’s top ten games in blocked shots during his career in Coral Gables.
That continues to show the all-around versatility as a player. On and off the court, Jones personifies doing what it takes to get the job done. It was clearly the ideals that were instilled in him by his mother. He .471 three-point percentage in the 2002-03 season is the best in Miami basketball history.
Jones is all over the Miami records books. In addition to being verastile, he was also durable. Jones 89 career starts rank third in the history of Miami basketball. The Hurricanes are three coaches removed from Perry Clark who Jones played for his last three seasons. Him staying close to the program shows his loyalty.
Jones is a critical part of the Miami basketball program. He will likely remain so as Larranaga continues to lead the most successful era in the history of Hurricanes basketball. How Jones builds the Suns into contenders will be worth keeping track of.
