Athlon Sports ranked New Miami Hurricanes offensive coordinator Dan Enos as the fourth best coordinator hire of 2019. Enos deserves to be higher ranked than that.

Dan Enos was hired by Manny Diaz as The New Miami Offensive Coordinator to replace Thomas Brown. Diaz fired Brown and the entire Miami offensive coaching staff less than 24 hours after being hired to replace Mark Richt as head coach on December 30.

Enos is ranked as the fourth best new coordinator and third best offensive coordinator in a new position in 2019. The former Alabama quarterbacks coach is ranked behind new Oklahoma defensive coordinator Alex Grinch and offensive coordinators Kendall Briles at Florida State and Rich Rodriguez at Mississippi.

Enos was the Arkansas offensive coordinator and Central Michigan head coach prior to spending the 2019 season on Nick Saban’s staff. It’s understandable for Enos to be behind Rodriguez who has been a head coach at West Virginia, Michigan and Arizona, but questionable for him to be behind Briles.

Briles was on the coaching staff of his father Art at Baylor during the Bears sexual assault scandal. He has yet to prove himself at a Power Five school away from his father. Enos has experience as a head coach that Briles doesn’t have and has two separate stops in the SEC.

Before becoming head coach at Central Michigan, Enos spent four seasons at his alma mater Michigan State as a quarterback and running backs coach under John L. Smith and Mark Dantonio. The former Spartans QB also worked under Dantonio as QB coach at Cincinnati in 2004-05. Athlon likes Enos’ accomplishments.

"“4. Dan Enos, Offensive Coordinator, MiamiNew Miami coach Manny Diaz hit a home run by landing Enos as his play-caller in 2019. The Michigan native spent the 2018 season working as Alabama’s quarterback coach and played a key role in the development of Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts.Enos arrived in Tuscaloosa after calling the plays at Arkansas from 2015-17. The Razorbacks finished second (35.9 ppg) in the SEC in scoring in 2015 and averaged over six yards a play in two out of Enos’ three years calling the plays.Enos also went 26-36 as Central Michigan’s head coach from 2010-14 and spent time as an assistant at Cincinnati (2004-05) and Michigan State (2006-09).”"

Dan Enos was hired by Diaz and the Miami Football program primarily to tutor the Hurricanes QBs. Miami’s QB play and the passing game was one of the most abysmal in college football last season. The Hurricanes need N’Kosi Perry, Tate Martell or Jarren Williams to step up and elevate the passing game.

Next. Miami game against Wagner part of a disturbing trend. dark

Enos’ tenure at Miami will be tied to the offense in general and the QB play and passing game more specifically. The Hurricanes received quality if inconsistent production in the ground game during Richt’s three-year tenure from 2016-18. With a deep running back corps in 2019 more of the same is expected.
