The 2020 recruiting class for the Miami football program is building an elite defensive line. Four-star weakside defensive end Chantz Williams is the fourth end and fifth defensive lineman for the Hurricanes in the class.

Chantz Williams is a key commitment for the 2020 recruiting class for the Miami football program. Williams is the highest-rated defensive player committed to Miami for 2020 and second-highest rated player overall. Williams is the 85th ranked player overall for 2020, the 12th ranked WDE and fourth-ranked player in Florida.

Williams joins his Oak Leaf, Orange Park, Florida teammate, four-star offensive tackle Jalen Rivers in the Miami recruiting class for 2020. Rivers is rated four-stars, the 18th best offensive tackle and 22nd best player in Florida for 2020. Oak Leaf is the alma mater of Miami senior linebacker Shaq Quarterman.

According to Andrew Ivins of Inside the U, Williams chose Miami over Florida, Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M, Auburn and Florida State. He is a big-time commit for Manny Diaz, co-defensive coordinators Blake Baker and Ephraim Banda and defensive line coach Todd Stroud. Stroud was the lead recruiter.

The Hurricanes lose graduate transfer defensive end Trevon Hill and senior Scott Patchan after the 2019 season and are likely to lose end, Jonathan Garvin, a year early to the NFL. Williams and four-star defensive tackle Willie Moise anchor an exceptional 2020 recruiting class for Miami on the defensive line.

Three-star defensive ends Elijah Roberts, Tre’von Riggins and Quentin Williams are all committed to the 2020 Miami recruiting class. The Hurricanes 2020 signing class remains eighth nationally with the commitment of Chantz Williams. Williams spoke to Inside the U about why he committed to Miami.

"“I picked Miami because I felt like it was my home basically…I feel like it was a place that wanted me and needed me and they showed that throughout the whole recruiting process. Basically what they told me was the same things that Miami had been saying from the start, Coach Diaz has implemented a lot of new things. The only thing that’s changed really is how they want to succeed and I could sense that on my last visit. I could also tell that on the calls with them that they are doing a lot of different workouts and stuff. That really opened my eyes. I’m excited. He (Stroud) has been telling me a lot about my strengths and weakness and how when I get to Miami he’s going to make me a better person. I want to major in communications and Miami has a very good communications program and I have looked into that.I also don’t think you could find a better looking campus than Miami. I mean living there and going to school there, I think it’s a pretty good spot to be.”"

The Miami defensive line will have depth without Hill and potentially without Garvin in 2020. Redshirt freshman Greg Rousseau and incoming freshman Jahfari Harvey project to be the starting tandem at defensive end in 2020. The incoming quartet that includes Williams is likely to contribute.

Williams committed to the Miami football program on Saturday via Twitter. He dedicated the post to his late father. There was not any information on when Williams expects to enroll.
