Backup LBs Waynmon Steed, Bradley Jennings and Patrick Joyner are all recovering from injuries and in various states of their recovers. Steed, Jennings and Joyner will all miss the Florida game. Steed’s career could be over.

Brooks has the attitude to be the leader of the linebacking corps after this season. Brooks was quoted by the Miami Herald about being prepared if he is called on to play on defense.

"“If I do get on the field, I just want to set the tone for my guys. I want Shaq to believe me 100 percent that I’ve got his back.”"

Huff is less likely to play against Florida. He is still learning the Hurricanes defense after just recently arriving in camp. Miami has more options to go to at strong and weakside linebacker. They can also use the striker more often in case of an injury. How often the striker is used could be dictated by the score of the game.

Getting off to a good start and out to the lead would allow Miami to utilize striker more as Florida would be forced to throw the football. Finley is strong against the run so playing him on obvious run downs is an option. Frierson is entering his first season at striker and is unknown. He is not likely to have a lot of snaps against Florida.
