Miami football depth chart mostly as expected defensively
The secondary is almost completely rebuilt. It is the biggest question mark on defense for the Miami football team. The graduations of safeties Jaquan Johnson and Sheldrick Redwine and CB Michael Jackson will be tested early. Hall, Carter, Blades and Ivey have to perform well against Florida.
The second-team safeties are redshirt sophomore USC transfer Bubba Bolden and senior Robert Knowles. Bolden has only been in Coral Gables for two weeks. He is still learning the Miami defense. His playing time is expected to go up during the season as he becomes more comfortable. Knowles gives the Miami secondary needed experience.
True freshman Keontra Smith is listed as the third-team strong safety behind Carter and Knowles. Smith could be pressed into playing time with the loss of junior Derrick Smith who announced he put his name in the transfer portal earlier this week. Finley could play safety if Miami’s depth gets tested.
The Miami CB depth was hindered when redshirt freshman Nigel Bethel also decided to transfer. True freshman Te’Cory Couch and Christian Williams are listed behind Bandy as the second and third-team CBs in that order. The Hurricanes coaching staff is confident in their ability. Couch passed Williams despite not being as highly ranked when they signed.
