Five Reasons for Miami Hurricanes fans to hate Florida over FSU
By Kyle Hinote
Miami Hurricanes fans naturally hate Florida State! A history of games between top 10 ranked teams gives Canes fans plenty of reasons to. What about the University of Florida?
Miami Hurricanes fans rarely give thought to that school in the swamps of Florida. Miami and Florida have played only six times since the Gators ended the series following their 1987 meeting. Miami and Florida had played annually with one exception from 1938-87. The programs did not play in 1943.
The series have had a plethora of back and forth since that inaugural 1938 game. The Miami Hurricanes won the initial meeting 19-7 in Gainesville. Miami lost the last meeting in Gainesville 26-3 in 2008. The Hurricanes won 21-16 the last time the teams played in 2013 at Hard Rock Stadium. The 2019 game will be played in Orlando.
This will be the sixth time Miami and Florida have played on a neutral site. Miami holds a 3-2 edge with wins the last three times the teams have played on a neutral site. The last two of those occurred in the 2001 Sugar Bowl and 2004 Peach Bowl. There has been a lot of speculation about what the makeup of the crowd will be in Orlando.
With the game about two hours closer to Florida’s campus and a much bigger alumni base in Orlando for the Gators, the estimate is that Florida will have a bigger crowd than the Miami Hurricanes fanbase. That is one reason to hate Florida more than Florida State.
You know, that awkward middle child that no one notices? In this case, Florida is trying to pretend they’re relevant and their rivalry with Miami compares to the Hurricanes rivalry with Florida State, all in efforts to feel equal. There are at least five reasons to hate Florida more than Florida State.
