It is not a surprise that Donaldson was Miami’s most effective lineman against Florida. He is by far the Hurricanes most experienced player on the offensive line. Donaldson started 23 games, mostly at right guard, in 2017 and ’18. He was moved to left guard this season. D.J. Scaife was outstanding at right tackle in 2018 is now at right guard.

With the struggles Nelson and Campbell had against Florida, it would not be a surprise for Miami offensive coordinator Dan Enos and offensive line coach Butch Barry to make changes on the offensive line for North Carolina September 7. Donaldson is better suited for guard than tackle and will almost definitely stay there.

One development to watch could be Scaife. The sophomore could flip positions with Campbell or potentially move to right tackle to replace him with sophomore Cleveland Reed starting at right guard. Scaife was one of the best freshmen tackles in the country in 2018.

Miami had more critical mistakes in the second half. The fourth quarter, in particular, was littered with penalties and sacks. A pair were especially critical. After a Miami fake field goal appeared to work and what would have given the Hurricanes first and goal at the Florida five, Will Mallory was called for holding.
