Cleaning up mistakes during bye week critical for Miami Hurricanes
Manny Diaz discussed in the post-game with Miami radio analyst Don Bailey Jr. how sacks are not always attributable to the offensive line.
"“Sacks does not always equate to offensive line play…There were times we were supposed to chip we didn’t chip. I think those guys in this setting showed they could play for the Miami Hurricanes.”"
Was Diaz just covering up for his guys? It is early and Campbell and Nelson were making their first starts, but if the offensive line doesn’t improve other teams will be able to make adjustments. We learned that constant pressure on Williams will make him (and any QB) ineffective.
Williams was 12-14 for 158 yards, a TD and no interceptions in the first half. He was 7-16 for 56 yards and no touchdowns in the second half. The Hurricanes began the game with short passes before Florida made adjustments and limited the Miami passing game in the second half.
Now Enos has two weeks to make adjustments before Miami plays North Carolina in two weeks. Getting the offensive line adjusted and cutting down on penalties will be critical to the success of the Miami Hurricanes in 2019.
The special teams were also a huge let down on Saturday. Baxa’s missed field goal, the holding call on Mallory on the fake field goal and a critical muffed punt by Jeff Thomas to set up a Florida touchdown all played a role in the Miami loss.
