Young Miami football roster requires patience and letting team grow
Through the first week of the season, Miami is 18th is rushing yards allowed per game and 19th in yards allowed per carry. The Hurricanes struggled at times against the run in 2018. Hopefully, the play against Florida is an indication of how the run defense will be in 2019.
The Miami offense against Florida started one senior, two juniors, four sophomores and four freshmen. four of those players were redshirts which boosts the average up a bit, but it is still a very young offense.

The Miami defense is far more experienced, but not without new players in the lineup. Including the all-senior starting LB corps, the Hurricanes started five seniors, four juniors and two sophomores. Junior defensive end Scott Patchan was the only redshirt (senior) to start on the Miami defense.
The secondary is the bulk of the inexperience for the Miami defense. Sophomores Gurvan Hall and Al Blades joined junior safety Amari Carter in becoming full-time starters for the first time this season. Carter has started in the past when injured players were out.
One of the biggest reasons Manny Diaz used the transfer portal to fortify the Miami roster during the 2019 offseason was to increase the experience in the Miami football program.
Players like wide receiver K.J. Osborn and defensive linemen Chigozie Nnoruka and Trevon Hill and all transferred to Miami for their fifth season of college football.
