Young Miami football roster requires patience and letting team grow

Osborne might be the most critical. The wide receiver room desperately needed a leader. Osborn has helped picked that up. Martell’s position switch to WR will also help the leadership. He has been a leader wherever he has played. Behind Osborn and Jeff Thomas, the Miami wide receivers are not very accomplished.

Mike Harley will hope to build on a 2018 season where he had 18 receptions. Sophomores Dee Wiggins, Brian Hightower and Mark Pope and freshman Jeremiah Payton still have a lot to prove at wideout. The backups that played for Miami against Florida were mostly young.

Five seniors, two juniors, eight sophomores and seven freshmen made up the reserves who played for Miami against Florida. Fourteen of those players have used a redshirt season. Harley, Martell, McCloud, Hill, Nnoruka and Pope were among the notable Miami players who came off the bench.

Only Harley and Pope among those six players have not redshirted yet. Pope is the only who had has not had much playing time.
