Big Men

Scottie Barnes, 6’8 210, small forward, Monteverde, Florida

A consensus five-star player and top 10 recruit, Barnes is a former teammate of Duke freshman Vernon Carey, Jr. at University School in Fort Lauderdale. With Carey having spurned his father’s alma mater for a basketball blue blood, it’s safe to say that no school would like to lockdown Barnes more than Miami.

Coach L and his assistants have been recruiting Barnes for several years now. Barnes has transferred to Montverde Academy across the state, where current UM freshman Harlond Beverly played. Barnes has a “who’s who” of offers, with many thinking that Barnes will end up at a traditional power or perhaps out at Oregon.

However, Barnes has been on campus at Miami several times and we wouldn’t count out the Hurricanes for this versatile 6’8” forward.

John Hugley 6’9 240, Center, Cleveland, Ohio

This consensus four-star center from Ohio is the most traditional back to the basket player that Miami is involved within the 2020 class, standing at 6’8” and a bulky 240 lbs. Hugley is ranked as high as 73rd by 24/7 Sports. He has visited NC State and is expected to visit Miami on September 20.

With no other visits set, he also holds offers from Pitt, Missouri, UConn, West Virginia and others.

Cliff Omoruyi 6’11, 230, center, Roselle, New Jersey

When this massive 6’11” rim protector completes his recruitment, he may have set foot on nearly 20 college campuses, primarily across the Northeast near his home base of New Jersey. Omoruyi is highly sought after and rightfully so, as he is one of the most physically imposing centers in the 2020 class.

While Omoruyi’s offensive game needs work, the big man dominated the glass and the paint as his team made their state title game out of a highly competitive league. Miami’s coaches visited Omoruyi in New Jersey earlier this week, and he starts his official visits at Auburn this weekend and TCU after that.

Omoruyi intends to take all five of his official visits, and we’ll keep an eye out to see if Coral Gables is on his recruiting itinerary.
