Miami football dominant, shows depth in 63-0 win over Bethune-Cookman

The Miami football team was dominant on both side of the ball in a 63-0 victory over Bethune-Cookman on Saturday in the home opener at Hard Rock Stadium.

The defense and offense for Miami football were dominant in their 63-0 victory over Bethune-Cookman on Saturday afternoon at Hard Rock Stadium. The Miami offense rolled up 590 yards and scored all 63 Hurricanes points. The Hurricanes defense scored the shutout and held the Wildcats to 137 total yards and four first downs.

Miami started slowly with a three and out on the first series. That Followed with a one-yard touchdown run by DeeJay Dallas on the first drive. Miami came up empty on the next two drives. Bubba Baxa missed a 30-yard field goal attempt on the Hurricanes third drive of the game. Miami dominated in the game’s final 41:25

Fifty-six of the 63 Miami points came in those final 41:25. DeeJay Dallas continued his dominant season. Dallas had 12 carries for 108 yards and three touchdowns. The Hurricanes ran 257 yards on 37 carries. Cam’Ron Harris and fan-favorite Jimmy Murphy added touchdown runs to power the Miami ground game.

The Hurricanes were equally productive through the air. The Miami offensive line did not allow a sack for the first time this season. Jarren Williams continued his excellent play. Williams was 19-24 for 254 yards and three touchdowns. Dallas and Williams are both having all-conference seasons through the first three games.

Williams has hit the jackpot through the first three games with 777 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions. The fact that Williams has not thrown in interception in the first three starts of his college career speaks volumes about how well he is playing. Dallas now has 310 yards and four TDs on the season.

As expected Miami shared the wealth throughout the game. There were some surprises and other players who played well in a game who needed to thrive. True freshman Larry Hodges scored TDs on both of his receptions.

Sophomore wide receivers Brian Hightower and Mark Pope finally showed the ability to make big plays. Hightower had five receptions for 54 yards, Pope three for 92, including a long of 54. Hightower had his first receptions on the season. Pope had two for 12 yards entering Saturday’s game.

Pope added a 21-yard run. Other positives were Robert Burns with five carries for 32 yards and Murphy with four for 17. Backup QB N’Kosi Perry received his first playing time of the season. Hodges second TD reception came from Perry. Perry finished 7-10 for 79 yards with the lone TD pass.

Dee Wiggins pulled in his first reception of the season for 14 yards and added a carry for 33 yards. Freshman Jeremiah Payton added his first catch for 14 yards.

Junior Mike Harley has complemented Dallas and tight end Brevin Jordan this season. He finally scored the first TD of his Miami career. Harley finished with three receptions for 49 yards and the TD. Harley has 12 receptions for 138 yards this season.

On defense, true freshman Sam Brooks led Miami with four tackles and a tackle for loss. Redshirt senior defensive end Scott Patchan and sophomore safety Gurvan Hall had the two sacks for Miami. Next week the Hurricanes host Central Michigan before a week off in two weeks. It is the second of five straight home games.
