Gauthier is a three-star prospect who is the 32nd ranked pro-style QB in the class of 2021. He is not likely related to former Miami center

Tyler Gauthier

. Gauthier is currently listed as warm to South Carolina and Central Florida. His decision could come down to playing time versus being in a power five program.

VanDyke would almost certainly be ahead of Gauthier on the depth chart with a chance to play. As the Miami football roster currently stands all the QBs will have eligibility remaining in 2021. Van Dyke is likely to redshirt in 2020 with Williams, N’Kosi Perry and Peyton Matocha 1-2-3 on the depth chart.

The scouting reports on Gauthier were not as easy to find as one Stone. The major recruiting sites like 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals.Com did not have a scouting report on Gauthier. QBHitList has a very extensive scouting report on the 2021 prospect.

"SIZE: Colten has excellent size for a 2021 Pro Style QB at 6’3” 205 lbs. He’s a very athletic QB who can do just about anything on the field. A strong armed QB capable to extending the field with very good range. Throws the ball with a high release point, adding lift to his delivery. ACCURACY: Colten’s able to get the ball to his receivers with good anticipation and timing. He’s very accurate at the short and intermediate range, capable of maintaining that accuracy on the deep ball. Very good ball placement, away from defenders. ARM STRENGTH: This is an area of strength for Colten. His passes made at the short and intermediate range includes high velocity throws that reach his targets in a hurry. Solid vertical passing game, able to extend the field. RELEASE: He throws with an over the top delivery, with a fully extended arm motion. He gets that ball way up high on its release. Shows good consistency on his delivery. THROW ON RUN: Very impressed with his ability to make plays while on the run. An athletic QB who displays good speed and quickness getting to the outside. FOOTWORK: This QB likes to mix things up, not your typical pocket passer. He shows good lateral movement, using the entire field as he locates his targets. Displays solid footwork on his step backs and set ups. POISE: He shows good patience in the pocket, waiting for the play to fully develop. Reacts quickly, wasting no time to get the ball to his targets. POCKET PRESENCE: Colten does a nice job picking up the defensive pressure, working within traffic as he creates open passing lanes. He shows excellent vision downfield while in the pocket. DECISION MAKING: An intelligent QB who’s capable of going through his progressions as he works down from his primary to secondary targets. TOUCH: This is another area of strength for Colten. He’s able to take something off his throws by adding a softer release in certain passing situations."
