The Miami football team has an opportunity to get healthy on Saturday against what has been a mediocre to poor Virginia Tech defense in 2019.

The offense for the Miami football team has been inconsistent this season. The low point of that was two weeks ago in a 17-12 victory over Central Michigan. Miami had 160 of their 301 total yards against the Chippewas on the first drive of each half. The Hurricanes need more consistency throughout the game.

The Virginia Tech defense has struggled in 2019. As Canes Warning examined in our preview of Saturday’s game Virginia Tech has one of the worst defenses in the ACC.  The Hokies are second to last overall in scoring in the conference allowing 28.5 points per game. Only Florida State is worse at 29.6 PPG.

In ACC games against Boston College and Duke Virginia Tech allowed a combined 80 points. Amazingly in conference games, the 40 points allowed per game is 12th out of 14 teams. Georgia Tech gave up 52 to Clemson in its one ACC game this season. Syracuse allowed 41 to the Tigers.

Those numbers will come down against inferior teams. Miami hosts Georgia Tech in two weeks. The Hurricanes do not play Syracuse this season. Miami defeated the Orange 27-19 in their last meeting in 2017. The 40 PPG allowed by the Virginia Tech defense is the worst in the ACC among teams who have played multiple games.

In all games this season, the Virginia Tech defense has allowed the second-most points per game among ACC teams at 28.5.  Only Florida State is worse at 29.6 PPG. Overall the Virginia Tech defense has been better stopping opponents from moving the ball then keeping them off the scoreboard.
