The Miami football team enters Friday night’s game against Virginia with a 9-7 lead in the all-time series and wins in three of the last four meetings. Miami lost 16-13 in Charlottesville last season. Both teams had three turnovers. Miami was unable to take advantage of a steal performance by their defense.

The Hurricanes held the Cavaliers to 231 total yards, just 92 passing. Perkins was 12-21 for the 92 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions. He added 61 yards rushing on 21 carries. Running back Jordan Ellis was the best offense for Virginia in last season’s game.

Ellis gained 86 yards on 18 Carries and scored the Cavaliers line touchdown. Travis Homer who is now with the Seattle Seahawks led Miami with 95 yards on eight carries. Malik Rosier scored the only Miami TD. The Hurricanes offense had mild success against the Cavaliers defense in 2019. Miami had 339 total yards offensively.

#19/#20 VIRGINIA CAVALIERS (4-1, 2-0 ACC)
HEAD COACH: Bronco Mendenhall (Oregon State, 1987) | CAREER: 119-66 (15th season) | AT UVA: 20-23 (fourth)

MIAMI HURRICANES (2-3, 0-2 ACC)
HEAD COACH: Manny Diaz (Florida State, 1995) | CAREER: 2-3 (first season) | AT MIAMI: 2-3 (first)

Virginia and Florida State should be the most challenging games for Miami the remainder of the season. The excuses for Miami is over. To quote late Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis Miami just has to “win baby.” Florida was supposed to be the best defense Miami would play and Sam Howell of North Carolina the best QB.
