The Miami football team will play the final game of a five-game homestand when the Hurricanes host Georgia Tech on Saturday at noon.
The Miami football team is coming off of a 17-9 victory over Virginia last Friday night. The Cavaliers entered the game as the 20th ranked team in the nation. Miami is 3-1 on the homestand thus far. The Hurricanes also had victories over Bethune-Cookman and Central Michigan at Hard Rock Stadium in September.
Virginia is in a three-way tie with North Carolina and Duke for the lead in the ACC Coastal Division. Miami is one game behind in fifth, tied with Virginia Tech. Saturday’s game against Georgia Tech is a must-win for the Hurricanes to stay in the race to win the Coastal. Miami has one more home game remaining after Saturday.
The Hurricanes host Louisville next month. Miami will also play FIU at Marlins Park in November. Miami has road games remaining at Pittsburgh, Florida State and Duke to close out the season. If the Hurricanes can get their offense and defense in sync in each game they have a chance to run the table and win the Coastal.
That is what it will likely take to earn their second appearance in the ACC Championship game in the last three seasons. As head coach Manny Diaz said earlier this week the Hurricanes this week that the Miami football team cannot think that far ahead. It’s a cliche to have to focus on each game but that’s what Miami has to do.
Georgia Tech enters Saturday’s game 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the ACC. The Yellow Jackets only win came against 3-3 South Florida. Georgia Tech also has a loss to FCS The Citadel.
