Miami football lack of consistency has hindered entire team
The Miami football team suffered a home loss for the second time in three weeks in a game they were expected to win by double digits. Diaz is correct that Miami is not going to roll over an ACC Coastal Division rival by 28 points. Miami has two wins this season against FBS opponents by a combined total of 14 points.
Miami lost Dallas in the first quarter. Starting linebacker Michael Pinckney and first-team cornerback Trajan Bandy went out later in the game. The next man up mentality does not always work. With a lack of depth, the Miami defense tired in the second half. Georgia Tech had the ball for 18:02 in the second half.
That doesn’t count the amount of time the Miami defense was on the field untimed in overtime. The Yellow Jackets ran for 135 of their 207 yards in the second half and overtime. Miami could not stop the run despite Georgia Tech having an anemic passing offense.
Georgia Tech had 138 yards passing in the game, 66 after halftime.Yellow Jackets quarterback James Graham finished 9-18 for 97 yards with one touchdown. He was not a threat in the passing game. Miami needed to stack the box and stop the run.
This wasn’t the Yellow Jackets triple-option they used under Paul Johnson. Miami’s inability to execute what should be routine things throughout the game led to another embarrassing loss.
The Hurricanes finish the season with four of their next five games on the road. Miami plays at Pittsburgh next week and Florida State to begin November. More frustration could lie ahead.
