Miami football QB play greatly upgraded behind Dan Enos
The quarterback play for the Miami football team has been significantly upgraded this season behind new offensive coordinator and QB coach Dan Enos.
Dan Enos came was hired by Manny Diaz to be the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Miami football team commencing with the 2019 season. Diaz has made a big impact in the improvement the Hurricanes have had at QB and in the passing game in 2019 by nearly every measure.
The passing offense for the Miami football team in 2018 was one of the worst in college football no matter how you measure it. Rumors abounded that Mark Richt resigned when he would not make any changes in the offensive coaching staff or system following an abysmal offense and passing game in 2018.
Miami finished the 2018 season, 66th in scoring offense at 28.3 points per game, 105th in total offense averaging 358.8 yards per game, 113th in passing offense averaging 167.3 yards, per game, 118th with a 51.1 completion percentage and 115th with a 112.12 passer rating. Those numbers have mostly improved in 2019.
The only number that is down is scoring and that encompasses more than the Miami passing offense and running game. Touchdowns on special teams and defense are also including in points per game. Miami is currently 75th at 28.3 PPG. The Hurricanes are 62nd in total offense averaging 409.3 YPG.
The Hurricanes passing game has improved this season across the board. With Jarren Williams and N’Kosi Perry taking the vast majority of snaps, Miami is 33rd in passing offense averaging 279.6 YPG, 28th completing 65.4 percent of their pass attempts and are 33rd with a passer rating of 151.21.
It’s impossible for fans to gauge the difference Enos has made in Williams. The redshirt freshman threw only three passes in 2018. Perry started six games in 2018 and has improved his numbers across the board from last season.
His career stats are below. Perry has also become a better leader on and off the field, has a better understanding of the offense and an improved pocket presence.

Some comments on social media have compared third-string QB Tate Martell not getting a chance at QB to Colin Kaepernick being blacklisted from the NFL. Perry and Williams have played better than many high profile QBs nationally.
The team passer rating for the Hurricanes is higher than several high profile schools. Overall Perry and Williams have graded out higher than Trevor Lawrence at Clemson, his former Tiger teammate Kelly Bryant who is now a Missouri Tiger and star North Carolina freshman Sam Howell.
Enos might need work as a play-caller. This is the first time he has called plays since 2017 at Arkansas. Playcalling is an art. Enos might need more time to get back into the feel of what a defense is doing. It is understandable to expect more from the Miami football team, but the play of the QBs is not to blame for a 3-4 start.
