In a headline clearly stated to earn clicks Saturday Down South incorrectly reported that “Following Miami’s decision to name new starting QB, Tate Martell reportedly taking leave from program.”

The report was erroneous on a few accounts and either crated to gain clicks, was a severe lack of information or flat out lazy reporting. The article by Saturday Down incorrectly reported that “Following Miami’s decision to name new starting QB, Tate Martell reportedly taking leave from program.”

After Jarren Williams sat two weeks ago because of a sore shoulder the Miami starting QB the last three games (including Saturday versus Pittsburgh) have been in flux later in the week. Saturday Down South’s report stating that Miami named a new starting QB is incorrect.

A little bit of effort and the report that was credited to the Saturday Down South staff should have learned that Miami is starting N’Kosi Perry on Saturday against Pittsburgh. By any measure, especially starting his third game in a row, Perry is not a “new starting QB.”

In addition to making his third start in a row, Perry will also be making the ninth start of his collegiate career and his second against Pittsburgh. Miami is 5-3 in Perry’s eight previous starts. The headline stating that Martell left the team following the naming of a new starting QB is very misleading if not wrong.

The Hurricanes named Perry as the starter for his third straight game. At the same time, Hurricanes announced that Martell was taking a medical leave of absence from the Miami football team. Nowhere has it been stated by anyone connected with the Miami football program that Martell left for any other reason.

No one either officially representing the Miami football program or any beat writers reported that Martell left for other reasons that the medical leave of absence being reported. More information might come out later. As of now, Martell left the team because of medical reasons.

The entire article by Saturday Down South is basically a troll job. SDS used the always reliable Inside the U as their source for reporting on Martell. Inside the U publisher Christopher Stock reported: “Tate Martell taking medical leave of absence, out for Pitt game.” Nowhere did he say it was because of Miami naming a new QB.

"“Tate Martell is in the news again. Once again, it’s not for his play on the field. So why is Martell in the news again? The sophomore quarterback/receiver has taken a leave from Miami due to “health reasons” according to 247Sports.The timing of this news is interesting, as Miami just announced N’Kosi Perry has been named the team’s new starting quarterback for Saturday’s game against Pitt. Whether or not Martell’s decision is related is unclear, but the timing is suspect. It should be noted Martell practiced all week and even met with the media following Tuesday’s practice. Martell has appeared in four games this season for the Hurricanes, splitting his time at QB and WR. Before enrolling at Miami, Martell signed with Ohio State. He had previously been committed to Washington and Texas A&M at times during his recruitment.”"

Miami tabs N'Kosi Perry vs. Pittsburgh, Martell out. dark. Next

Buried in the middle of their article Saturday Down South stated : “Whether or not Martell’s decision is related is unclear, but the timing is suspect.” The title is incredibly misleading. It would have far more responsible to just state that Tate Martell left the Miami football team and ask if last week was his last in a Miami uniform.
