As expected and customary for the ACC Coastal Division with a month remaining in the season virtually anyone can still earn a trip to Charlotte for the ACC Championship game in December. The Miami football team likely has to win out.
The win on Saturday for the Miami football team was critical to get them back into the race in the ACC Coastal Division. The second title in three years is a long shot but can still happen. The Hurricanes are a very odd 2-3 in the conference this season. Miami won two games as an underdog and lost three as a favorite.
Miami lost at North Carolina after a bye following a season-opening defeat to Florida week zero. Virginia and North Carolina are currently tied atop the Coastal at 3-2. Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh are next at 2-2, followed by Duke and Miami at 2-3 and Georgia Tech at 1-3. Miami is likely going to have to win out to have a chance.
The Hurricanes are going to need some help too. The biggest game of the season in the ACC Coastal and for determining the chance for Miami to remain in the race for a trip to Charlotte is this weekend in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The Tar Heels will host the Virginia Cavaliers. The winner is in the ACC Coastal driver’s seat.

Miami needs a Virginia win to continue on their drive for Charlotte. The Hurricanes have four games remaining this season. Three of those are in the ACC beginning at Florida State on Saturday. That follows with Louisville coming to Hard Rock Stadium November 9 and a trip to Durham, NC to play Duke November 30.
If North Carolina defeats Virginia it would be nearly impossible for Miami to have a chance to win the Coastal. The Hurricanes own the tiebreaker with Virginia after defeating the Cavaliers at Hard Rock Stadium on October 11. The loss by the Miami football team at North Carolina gives the Tar Heels the tiebreaker.
