The first Miami football game as a member of the ACC wasn’t an epic comeback because of how many points they were trailing by it was memorable because of how they won the game. Florida State held a 10-0 lead at halftime off of a Xavier Beitia field goal and a 61-yard fumble return for a touchdown from Antonio Cromartie.

Neither team’s offense reached the end zone for the first 59:30 of playing time. Miami pulled within in a touchdown early in the fourth quarter off a Jon Peattie field goal. Miami closed the game out in dramatic fashion. Quarterback Brock Berlin who engineered a comeback against Florida a year earlier helped lead Miami back.

Berlin connected with Sinorice Moss for a 30-yard touchdown pass with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter.  Frank Gore’s 18-yard run won the game in overtime for Miami. The win was especially sweet as it was Miami’s third victory over Florida State in 11 months and their sixth in a row in the series.

Florida State would then win 10 of the next 12 games in the rivalry. The only Miami football wins in that span occurred in 2007 and 2009 in Tallahassee. The Hurricanes win in 2004 was their last in Miami against Florida State until 2018. The Hurricanes broke a seven-game overall losing streak in 2017.
