The Miami football team is going back to redshirt freshman Jarren Williams as the starting quarterback against Florida State as announced by Manny Diaz after practice on Wednesday.

The Miami football team has gone back and forth with redshirt freshman Jarren Williams and redshirt sophomore N’Kosi Perry as the starting quarterbacks this season. Williams started the first five games for Miami in 2019 and Perry started the last three. Williams came on in relief of Perry in a comeback victory last week.

The Hurricanes rallied in the fourth quarter after Pittsburgh took a 12-10 lead. A 32-yard touchdown pass from Williams to K.J. Osborn with 58 seconds remaining put Miami in front to stay 16-12 after a failed two-point conversion attempt. Williams was pulled against Virginia Tech last month after three interceptions.

Head coach Manny Diaz made the announcement that Williams would be the starting QB Wednesday after practice. Williams provides the Miami offense with more consistency and accuracy. He is on pace to shatter the Miami completion percentage record for a season. Williams has completed 70.1 percent of his attempts.

Diaz reiterated as he has all season that Williams has been their “guy” all along. Perry reportedly started last week against Pittsburgh after Williams missed practice. The shuffling of the QBs has led to inconsistencies for the offense on the Miami football team. The Hurricanes are currently 84th in total offense.

"“Jarren Williams will be our starting quarterback this Saturday at Florida State. Quite simply, Jarren Williams has been our starting quarterback. In terms of what happened a week ago, there is still a standard for preparation that Jarren was beat out by N’Kosi and that was why he started against Pitt.I think it is important for the University of Miami to have ‘a guy’ at quarterback and Jarren has been our guy at quarterback. “Again, as I’ve mentioned all year, I think it’s important for the University of Miami to have a guy at quarterback.Jarren has been our guy. But we also have to reserve the right to make sure that everybody is competing on Greentree Practice Field in meeting rooms, in everything that we do to the standard of the University of Miami. No, what I’m saying is…[I] have never wavered from the fact that Jarren Williams is our starting quarterback. There are things that you can do in practice to lose your job, or there are things that can happen if another guy outworks you or out-exceeds you. If you don’t do that then you lose all credibility. That’s simply what the lesson from last week was all about.”"

Williams the offense for the Miami football team should have a chance to move the ball against Florida State. Florida State is 108th in total defense. The Seminoles are an even worse 118th against the pass. If Williams’s shoulder is healthy he should return to playing as well as did in the first four games.

Williams and the Miami pass offense has had success in 2019. Under new offensive coordinator and QB coach Dan Enos, the Hurricanes are ranked 36th in FBS. Williams is 23rd in passer rating and 11th in completion percentage. The play at QB from Williams and Perry has greatly upgraded the Miami pass offense in 2019.
