In a dominant performance nearly from start to finish, the Miami football team earned a 27-10 victory at Florida State on Saturday afternoon. The Hurricanes earned their third straight win over the Seminoles.

The Miami football team got on the board on their second drive of the game and never trailed in a mostly dominant 27-10 victory over Florida State on Saturday afternoon at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee. The Hurricanes dominated both sides of the ball throughout in victory.

Florida State had a stagnant offense virtually the entire game. The Seminoles had 116 out of their 203 total yards in the game on their two scoring drives. Florida State could not block Miami. Six different Miami players recorded nine sacks with all but one by safety Amari Carter by the defensive line.

Redshirt freshman defensive end Greg Rousseau turned in his second consecutive dominant performance. Rousseau had eight tackles, five tackles for loss and four sacks. He recorded seven tackles, three TFLs and three sacks in last week’s victory at Pittsburgh. Miami has 34 sacks for the season and averages 3.77 per game.

The Miami offense was led by quarterback Jarren Williams. Williams had the second 300 yard game of his short Hurricanes career. Williams was 21-37 for 313 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. The Hurricanes got on the board on their second drive when Williams connected with Jeff Thomas from 39 yards.

That gave Miami a 7-0 lead when Camron Price made the extra point. The Hurricanes needed a big completion from Williams to DeeJay Dallas for 42 yds to the Florida State 35 for a first down on third and seven. Williams completed the deep pass to Thomas on the next play to give Miami momentum.

The teams next exchanged punts before Florida State had a 17 play, 54-yard drive in 6:48 before the drive stalled and the Seminoles had to settle for a 37 yard Ricky Aguayo field goal. Miami padded their lead later in the second quarter when Dallas ran the ball in from six yards out with 03:58 left in the second quarter.

Dallas’ TD run extended the Miami lead to 14-3 after Price made his second extra point. Williams again contributed through the air with a big 34-yard completion to Mike Harley to the Florida State six-yard line. Dallas punched it in one play later. After forcing an FSU three and out Price made a 29-yard field goal to end the first half.

Florida State owned the third quarter with 100-30 advantage in total yards. All the Seminoles had to show for it was a 17-10 deficit entering the fourth quarter. Cam Akers helped give Florida State a glimmer of hope with an 18-yard TD reception from Alex Hornibrook. The Hurricanes turned it around over the final 15 minutes.

Price missed a field goal on the first play of the fourth quarter than failed to give Miami a two-score lead. The Hurricanes forced Florida State to punt on their next drive. On the first play from scrimmage on the next Miami drive Williams threw a 54-yard bomb to Dee Wiggins to push the Hurricanes lead to 24-10.

Price added a field goal later in the fourth quarter that killed any hope of a Florida State comeback. Miami could have easily defeated Florida State more convincingly. The Hurricanes had a 353-203 advantage in total yards, dominated Florida State in field position, had nine sacks and were plus one in turnovers.
