Coming off of an 87-74 loss to Louisville in the season opener the Miami basketball team will attempt to win its first game of the 2019-20 season against Florida Atlantic on Friday night at the Watsco Center on Friday night.

The Miami basketball team will host Florida Atlantic on Friday night at the Watsco Center following an 87-74 loss to Louisville in the season opener on Tuesday night. FAU won it’s season opener 92-81 over Division II Flagler College. Miami defeated Flagler last month in an exhibition game.

The Hurricanes’ loss to Louisville was not as close as the score indicated. Miami needed to score the final 14 points of the game against the Cardinals to make the final margin semi-respectable. Miami was led by their two best returning players in the loss to Louisville, Learning returning scorer Chris Lykes scored 18.

Senior guard Dejan Vasiljevic scored 16 and junior transfer Kameron McGusty posted 12 in his first official game for the Hurricanes. Lykes, Vasiljevic and McGusty were the only three Miami players in double figures against Louisville. The Hurricanes need more frontcourt scoring. Freshman forward Anthony Walker scored nine.

Redshirt junior Sam Waardenburg started as a stretch power forward and scored two points with four rebounds and two blocks.

Graduate transfer Cornelius Taylor scored 20 points off the bench for Florida Atlantic in their season-opening win over Flagler earlier this week. Taylor transferred to FAU after playing his first three collegiate seasons at Division II elite program Lincoln Memorial. Michael Forest and Karlis Silins combined for 25 points for the Owls.
