If you throw out one bad quarter of football, Jarren Williams had led a resurgence of the offense for the Miami football team in 2019. Williams has always been the Hurricanes’ right choice to be the starting quarterback in 2019.

Jarren Williams has thrown 16 TDs without an interception this season if you take out the disastrous first quarter against Virginia Tech. Williams is also on pace to set the single-season school record for completion percentage in the history of the Miami football program. Williams has completed 67.4 percent of his passes in 2019.

Jacory Harris currently holds the Miami single-season record for completion percentage at 65 percent in 2011. The ability for Williams to throw the ball accurately is why he was named the first-team QB for the Hurricanes. Williams has completed at least 65 percent of his passes in five games this season.

The battle over the summer to be the starting QB for the Miami football team was presumed to be between redshirt sophomore N’Kosi Perry and Tate Martell. Those closer to the Hurricanes knew Williams’ talent. The majority of national college football analysts were asking who Williams was when he was named first-team QB.

It was a surprise outside of the Greentree practice fields when Williams beat out Perry and Martell to be the starting QB in August. Early in the season with the Miami offensive line struggling and Williams still learning the offense, the Hurricanes relied on a short passing game.

Ineptness on the offensive line and Williams holding on to the ball too long resulted in Florida getting 10 sacks against Miami in a season-opening 24-20 victory in Orlando week zero. Williams has bought more time in the pocket by scrambling, learned when to run and when to throw the ball away since the loss to Florida.

The last three weeks have left no doubt that Williams was the right choice as the starting QB for the Miami football team. Williams entered the game for the last two drives against Pittsburgh two weeks ago. The redshirt freshman led Miami on a nine-play, 62-yard drive in 3:03 that finished with the winning TD pass.

Williams connected with K.J. Osborn from 32 yards with 58 seconds remaining to put Miami ahead 16-12. That play turned Miami’s entire season around. Williams was named the starter last week against Florida State and threw for a career-high 313 passing yards. That was topped by six TD passes against Louisville.

The half-dozen TD passes against the Cardinals set the program record for the Miami football team and tied the ACC record. The Hurricanes offense has shown the explosiveness the last two weeks that had been expected of them all season. Williams, the young offensive line and receivers are finally beginning to gel.
