The 79 points the Miami football team have scored in their last two games have featured numerous big plays. The explosiveness by the Hurricanes offensively is what head coach Manny Diaz and offensive coordinator Dan Enos have worked towards.

The offense had been inconsistent throughout the 2019 Miami football season before erupting for several big plays and 27 points against Florida State last weekend. Miami nearly doubled that number in a 52-27 victory over Louisville Saturday. The Hurricanes have been prolific offensively producing big plays in the last two weeks.

The entire offense has improved as the season has gone on. The offensive line is giving the Miami quarterbacks more time to throw. That has especially been true over the past two weeks. Better protection has given redshirt sophomore Jarren Williams more time to throw and take more chances downfield.

David Lake of Inside the U noted in a post on Sunday that Williams is 6-10 for 241 yards and five touchdowns the last two weeks in passes that traveled 20 or more yards in the air. The numbers from Pro Football Focus recorded Williams’ six long completions were the second most nationally and the five TDs were the most.

Although a different stat than how far the ball travels in the air, the half dozen big plays last two weeks have been part of the Miami offense vaulting into the top 20 nationally for explosive plays. The Hurricanes are 16th with 110 pass plays of 10 yards or more, 19th with 41 plays of 20 yards or more and ranked highly throughout.

Miami head coach Manny Diaz expects the Hurricanes offense the past two weeks to be a sign of things to come in the future. The biggest test for the Miami football team on offense will be can they perform to this level against a good defense. Florida State is 103rd in FBS in total defense and Louisville is 101st.

"“What was great today for our players and for our fans is they got to see more of a glimpse of what’s coming. When you see how dynamic we were on offense, explosive plays, run game downhill, the RPO game, getting the ball to our playmakers — all the things that we said we wanted to do. That, to me, looked like the Miami Hurricane offense — and it had to be.”"

The Hurricanes have had to rely on the passing offense this season with an inconsistent rushing offense. Miami is 116th in FBS averaging 119.9 rushing yards per game. The Miami passing offense that was pedestrian in 2018 is 37th in the country averaging 267.6 passing yards per game.

Next. New Miami has arrived with amazing offensive exhibition. dark

Miami is 16th nationally as a team with 24 TD passes. A quarter of that came on Saturday from Williams. The Hurricanes should get a chance to pad those numbers in the last two games. FIU is 69th in total defense and Duke is 46th.
