Miami basketball hosts Quinnipiac Saturday: Game Info
The Miami basketball team will try for its third consecutive victory on Saturday when they host Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon at the Watsco Center.
The Miami basketball team won a key game at Central Florida on Tuesday night that could pay dividends in March. The Hurricanes pulled away in the second half for a 79-70 victory in Orlando. Junior transfer Kameron McGusty led four Miami players in double figures with 17 and had a career-high 10 rebounds.
Freshman guard Harlond Beverly continued to impress against the Knights. Beverly scored 15 points off the bench on 6-11 from the floor and added four assists. On the season, Beverly is averaging 12.7 points per game, 3.3 assists, shooting 54.5 percent from the floor and 44.4 percent on three-point attempts.
Senior Dejan Vasiljevic had 16 points, four rebounds and four assists and junior Chris Lykes added 11 points and three assists but had five turnovers. The Miami offense has been consistent through the first three games. The Hurricanes scored 74 in their first two contests and 79 against Central Florida.
Quinnipiac lost their only game of the season 70-68 to Brown on Wednesday night. The Bobcats shoe 42.6 percent from the floor but greatly struggled shooting the three. Quinnipiac made just six of their 29 three-point attempts. The Bobcats were carried by 6’3 guard Matt Balanc who scored 23 points off the bench.
Balanc made 9-13 from the floor and 3-5 on three-point attempts with four rebounds in the loss to Brown. Miami has to stay with Balanc and make sure he realizes he is not the Hurricanes friend. Rich Kelly, a 6’1 junior guard was the only other player in double figures for the Bobcats in the loss to Brown with 13 points.
Kelly also contributed four rebounds and five assists. Like the rest of Quinnipiac, Kelly struggled to shout the ball. He was 5-15 from the floor and 2-6 on three-point attempts. The Hurricanes are also going to have to try and keep redshirt junior forward
off the boards.
Marfo was 3-3 from the floor for seven points with 14 rebounds. He played against Miami three years ago when he was with George Washington. Marfo had four rebounds in nine minutes but did not take a shot. All of the rebounds were on the defensive end of the floor.

Miami will not have a huge size advantage over Quinnipiac. The Bobcats have seven players 6’6 or taller. That is an unusual number for a mid-major program. Two other players to watch are 7’0 freshman center Seth Pinckney and 6’8 graduate transfer forward Aaron Falzon. Pinckney had eight and four in the Bobcats loss to Brown.
Falzon spent the previous four years at Northwestern. He is versatile forward that can play inside or shoot the three. Quinnipiac is coached by Baker Dunleavy who was a long-time Jay Wright assistant at Villanova. Dunleavy is the son of former NBA Head Coach Mike and the brother of former Duke player Mike Jr.
