Less than 24 hours after their humiliating loss to Florida International on Saturday night at Marlins Park the Miami football program has had three players de-commit. The latest was a pair of 2021 four-star wide receivers on Sunday.

Four-star wide receivers Jacolby George and Romello Brinson announced within minutes of each other on Sunday and less than 24 hours after three-star 2020 defensive lineman Tre’Von Riggins that they were de-committing from the Miami football program and reopening their recruitment.

George and Brinson cannot sign a National Letter of Intent until December 2021. The loss of Riggins did not put a huge dent in the 2020 Miami recruiting class. The Hurricanes have four defensive linemen that remain committed to the Miami football program for 2020.

Miami has a pair of three-star wide receivers remaining in their 2021 recruiting class. The Hurricanes still hold the nation’s second-best class. The losses of Brinson and George hurt a Miami recruiting class that will need to add wide receivers in the next two cycles.

Miami will lose juniors Jeff Thomas and Mike Harley after either the 2019 or 2020 season. The Hurricanes have sophomores Mark Pope and Dee Wiggins emerging. Pope and Wiggins will be eligible for the NFL Draft after the 2020 season. The sophomores have one more season in college before they can consider the NFL Draft.

Harley is likely to return for his senior season in 2020. Thomas seems more likely to leave for the NFL. Inside the U quoted Brinson’s de-commitment.

"“First I’d like to thank my friends and family for supporting me on this decision, my coaches & teammates…This was a hard decision, but it’s a young man decision so he can better his self in life. As going up as a family with a lot of canes fans, Miami Weill (sic) still be an option.Bit as of right now I would like to thank the University of Miami for the opportunity and taking the chance on me, but I am DE-COMMMITTED from the University of Miami.”"

George retweeted a report from the account, the Crib South Florida with the report that he was de-commiting from Miami. Brinson and George are the third Miami wide receivers to de-commit in less than a week. Miami lost 5’9.5 160-pound four-star WR Marcus Fleming from their 2020 class early this past week.

Miami picked up a commitment from four-star WR Dazalin Wosham who at 6’1 180 pounds gives the Hurricanes excellent size. At 5’10.5 155 pounds, George does not fit the prototypical receiver that offensive coordinator Dan Enos and wide receiver coach Taylor Stubblefield. The new Miami regime likes taller WRs.

Miami has already felt the impact of three players de-committed from their next to recruiting classes after the inexplicable loss to FIU. A win at Duke heading into their bowl game is paramount to add some momentum for Miami in recruiting and for the bowl game and next season.

A loss to the Blue Devils could be devastating. Miami will likely play its bowl game after the early signing period next month from December 20-22. Recruits notice what is going on and off the field. Miami cannot have another offseason with an embarrassing defeat in a bowl game. The Canes have had enough of those in 2019.
