Thanksgiving and Black Friday landed the Miami football program commitments from two former four-star recruits who used to be committed to Florida State.  The Hurricanes could be on the verge of flipping another commitment to the Seminoles.

The Miami football program has had a volatile week in recruiting after the loss to FIU on Saturday. The Hurricanes lost three committed players early in the week and received a commitment from four-star recruits, running back Jaylan Knighton on Thanksgiving and safety Jalen Harrell on Black Friday.

The commitments from Knighton and Harrell pushed Miami up from 17th to 14th in the national recruiting rankings. Four-star outside linebacker Keshawn Greene is a player to watch to potentially be the third player who has committed to Florida State to commit to Miami. The Miami staff has continued to recruit Greene.

One of the losses for Miami in the past week was three-star LB A.J. Mathis. The decision by Mathis to re-open his recruitment was reportedly mutual. Miami currently has three three-star linebackers committed for 2020. Being able to add Greene would provide a huge boost at LB which is greatly in need of depth.

The Hurricanes lose four-year starters Shaq Quarterman and Michael Pinckney at the end of the 2019 season. Quarterman is having a career year with 90 tackles and 15.5 tackles for loss entering Saturday’s game at Duke. Quarterman is four tackles away from breaking into the Hurricanes top 10 all-time.

Greene is 6’3, 195 pounds and ranked as the nation’s 169th best player, 14th best OLB and 27th best player in Florida in 2020. It is interesting he is ranked as an OLB and not specifically as a weakside or strongside LB. Zach McCloud will be back for his redshirt season for Miami in 2020 after redshirting this season.

McCloud is a lock as one of the starters at LB next season.  The starting linebacker next to McCloud who is slated to replace Quarterman in the middle will likely be one of two 2019 freshmen, Sam Brooks or Avery Huff. Brooks has six tackles and one TFL this season. Huff is taking an academic redshirt season.

Romello Height, Tirek-Austin Cave and Corey Flagg are the three LBs committed to Miami for 2020. Height is expected to be an edge rusher in college. Austin-Cave and Flagg are projected to play inside. The Hurricanes LB room is very fluid entering 2020. Miami can sell Greene the potential for playing time in 2020.

Bradley Jennings Jr. and Waynmon Steed have sat out the entire 2019 season with injuries. Patrick Joyner has missed most of the season before making his season debut against Louisville. Greene plays high school football for Wakulla which is about 25 miles south of Tallahassee. Greene has yet to take an official visit to Miami.

Andrew Ivins of Inside the U stated it is hard to interpret where Greene stands with his recruitment. Ivins felt that the decision for Miami and Mathis to mutually move in a different direction could be an indication that Greene is extremely high on the priority list for Miami.
