Al Golden is spiteful in his lawsuit against Miami football program

Golden claims he knew nothing about the impending probation involving Shapiro despite reports in CNN Money and The Bleacher Report that pre-dated Golden being hired by Miami on December 12, 2010. Four days after Golden was hired by the Hurricanes the Miami New Times ran a profile of Shapiro.

Former Miami President Donna Shalala approved a new severance package with athletic director Blake James via a conference call with Golden who was on the road recruiting in December of 2013. Golden currently claims that he is only receiving checks for $0.24 to his wife’s residence in New Jersey.

Golden claims that the University of Miami denies that the conversation between he, Shalala and James ever occurred, that he turned down a $16 million job with Wisconsin for $2 million from Miami and that he has not paid him the severance he is owed. Golden has also alleged it has taken a toll on him and his family.

Golden has to be aware that he is likely the most unpopular coach in the history of the Miami football program. Airplanes flew above Hard Rock Stadium during Hurricanes football games begging for Golden to be fired. It would have been nearly impossible for him to ignore that. Some of Golden’s comments were fantastical.
