Golden compared himself to Jimmy Stewart’s George Bailey from It’s a Wonderful Life. He claimed he would be more valuable to his family dead than alive because of life insurance. Those are illusions of grandeur. The Golden to Slater email complained he was treated worse than any fired coach from a Power Five program.

Golden goes on to state that no one got screwed as he and his family did. It is not clear if Golden wrote the email before or after Willie Taggart was fired by Florida State. Taggart had an $18 million buyout but only had 21 games before the Seminoles terminated his contract. Golden had 4.5 seasons and 59 games with Miami.

Golden continued that he did not sue Miami in 2015 when his coordinators, offensive coordinator James Coley and defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio, were not offered two-year contract extensions as he alleged was agreed on. An employed coach suing his own university would be negative in everyway.

The move by Golden to sue Miami while still employed as the Hurricanes head coach would have angered the fan base and negatively impacted recruiting. Golden incredibly went on to state that the Shapiro investigation was not disclosed to him pre-contract when timelines and a report in CNN Money were released in April 2010.
