Three out of the four college football playoff teams have a transfer quarterback. The lone exception is Trevor Lawrence of Clemson. The Miami Football program should not be above inquiring into a transfer quarterback.

The backlash of the Miami football program looking into a transfer quarterback for the second straight season is that detractors will point to Tate Martell being a non-factor for the Miami football program this season. Each player is an isolated case and the Hurricanes have to do what they can to get better.

Martell left Ohio State largely because of the switch in offense from Urban Meyer to Ryan Day and because former Georgia QB Justin Fields joined the Buckeyes. One of Martell’s former Ohio State teammates, Joe Burrow is likely to be named the 2019 Heisman Trophy winner on Saturday for LSU.

Burrow ironically played his first game for LSU against Miami in the 2018 season opener. The son of former Green Bay Packers cornerback and Nebraska assistant coach and player Jim Burrow was uninspiring against the Hurricanes. He completed 11 passes in 24 attempts for 140 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.

Burrow took off this season under new LSU passing game coordinator Joe Brady who was named the Broyles Award winner as the nation’s best assistant coach. Burrow thrived in Brady’s presence. David Lake of Inside the U examined what the Miami football team is missing in relation to the college football playoff teams.

The Hurricanes inconsistency at QB is a big one. Jarren Williams showed the kind of QB play needed from the most important position in football at times this season but lacked consistency. Quarterback play for the Hurricanes was greatly improved led by QB coach and offensive coordinator Dan Enos this season.

Miami needs far more consistency than they received from Williams and N’Kosi Perry. Williams completed 62.7 percent of his passes for 2,093 yards, 19 TDs and six interceptions. All six of Williams’ interceptions came in the losses to Virginia Tech and FIU. Perry completed 55.6 percent of his passes for 993 yards eight TDs and two INTs.

Williams has potential. He showed in the remainder of his starts he can be a very good passer and QB. Miami needs more consistency from him. Perry is more mobile than Williams, but his lack of accuracy hinders him from being a consistent starter. There are over 30 QBs currently in the transfer portal.

Next. Miami's toughest opponent is themselves. dark

It would be in the best interests of the Miami football program to at least inquire to see if any of these signal-callers are a good fit. None of them are at the same level as Burrow, Fields and Heisman Trophy Finalist Jalen Hurts of Oklahoma. Burrow emerged from the pack though and someone else might be ready to do the same.
