The Miami football team played two quarterbacks in 2019 that were signed by the Hurricanes previous offensive staff. Four-star quarterback Tyler VanDyke who signed a National Letter of Intent with Miami on Wednesday could be the Hurricanes QB of the future.

Tyler VanDyke is a four-star 6’4 212 pound quarterback who is the 209th ranked players, ninth ranked pro style QB and second ranked player in Connecticut in the Class of 2020. VanDyke’s style is closer to Jarren Williams than N’Kosi Perry of the two primary QBs on the Miami football team.

VanDyke is a good athlete that was a good hitter and pitcher in baseball. VanDyke comes to Miami with what appears to be for now a four player race at QB for the Hurricanes in 2020. Neither Williams or Perry asserted themselves as the obvious first team QB for the Hurricanes this season.

Williams completed 62.7 percent of his passes for 2,093 yards, 19 touchdowns and six interceptions in 2019. All six of Williams interceptions came in the Hurricanes losses to Virginia Tech and Florida International. Perry completed 55.6 percent of his passes for 993 yards, eight TDs and two Ints this season.

Perry has to become far more accurate throwing football or he will never be more than a backup. VanDyke has good size to stand in the pocket and throw the football. Williams was criticized early in the season for not being able to throw the ball consistently on deep balls. VanDyke has been praised for his touch on deep throws.

Williams grew up a lot after sitting out in 2018. He still has to mature more being a leader. VanDyke appears to have a calm demeanor to that would benefit him if he earns playing time as a freshman. The Connecticut resident is a considerable long shot to earn playing time next year. It seems more likely that he will redshirt.

Williams, Perry and Tate Martell will all be eligible for the 2021 NFL Draft after competing with the Miami football team next season.

"“Good frame allows him to stand tall in pocket…Smooth delivery with soft touch on deep throws. Accurate and can fit ball into tight windows. Calm demeanor. Plays in control. Slides in pocket well. Has high release point to accentuate size. Has sneaky mobility to extend plays. Needs to shorten his release.Must show arm strength to throw 15-yard out. Increasing athleticism will be helpful. Multi-year starter at Top 20 program. Projects as a mid-to-late (fifth round) NFL draft pick.”"

Next. Miami has to recruit better locally to compete nationally. dark

The above scouting report from 247Sports.Com indicates that VanDyke potential as he readies to enter college is that he will be a solid Power Five starting QB. He cannot be expected to be the type of player to turn the offense around by himself. VanDyke will upgrade the Miami QB room which was a goal for Manny Diaz.
